THE NEED FOR COMPUTER LITERACY AS A TEACHING AND LEARNING AID IN THE NEW AGE (A CASE STUDY OF JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OJO AND AMUWO ODOFIN LGA)
ABSTRACT
This research study was carried out to study the need for computer literacy as a teaching and learning aid in the new age in junior secondary schools in Ojo and Amuwo Odofin. The pace of change brought about by new technologies has had a significant effect on the way people live, work or play worldwide. New and emerging computer technologies as a teaching aid, challenge the traditional process of teaching and learning. While the world continues to advance with smarter, faster technology, the need to be computer literate becomes more imperative. Computer literacy is helpful for researching important topics or personal concerns. Questionnaires were used for data collection and hypothesis were stated out to verify the extent to which computer literacy as a teaching and learning aid in the new age is being used, some literatures were reviewed to support the study. Having being investigated, data analysis was carried out using chi-square to get the expected frequencies and using the critical table 0.05 level of significance, all the hypothesis were rejected

INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Since the introduction of computer studies into our education system, it was been confronted with numbers of problems, its implementation have suffered a lot for example many public schools have been unable to introduce it into their curriculum of studies because of scarcity of fund, while some schools that can afford the computers have done so, but still tackling some problems of software personnel and other physical factors that have instructed the proper running of the computer studies in such schools. Hence, the audio/visual media comprises facilities such as record player system and the projector. The computer system is sub-divided into two broad part namely hardware and software part. Moreover, the Software is sub-divided into several form, many are of Importance to our educational system. Since, we are all aware that our traditional classroom Technique cannot meet the demand or yield good result under this our present resource shortage or predicament, in Educational institution, the use of computer should be Introduce to the system to serve as a teaching aid. This Project is target, based and highlight on how computer can Aid teaching and learning processes, in order to improve or elevate the standard of education in Nigeria.

- Lack of qualified computer science teachers and assistant.
- Non accessibility to the computer system by the learners
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
This project is expected to give a broaden light to computer science teachers or lecturers in the faculty of education in our universities using the following objectives
- To explain the principle and uses of computer
- To determine the level of use of computer application as learning aid in the school.
- To discuss briefly on the types of computer and part of computer.
- To find out if there are adequate skilled teachers.
- To discuss briefly on the generation of the use of information technology in education.
- To states the roles of new technologies in education.
vii. To states the problems and prospects in using computer as a teaching aid in education.
1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
- Will the use of computer as a teaching aid bring about effective and efficient teaching and learning in our school system?
- Will the use of computer improve the student? Achievement test.
- Is there any significant difference between student taught using computer and those taught with the traditional method of teaching.
- Would there be great effect on student practical work to teacher experience.
1.5 RESEARCH HYPOTHESES
- The use of computer as teaching aid cannot bring about effective and efficient teaching and learning
- There is no significant differences noticed between the quality of teachers and the implementation of computerized system
- There is no significant differences between the availability of software and their implementation on the policy on computer education.
