SUPPLEMENTING TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS THROUGH THE USE OF IMPROVISATION AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL AND IT IMPLICATION ON PUPILS IN THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE (A CASE STUDY OF OJO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OGUN STATE)
ABSTRACT
This project is aimed at investigating the relevance of instructional materials and media to the promotion of teaching and learning process in primary schools. The study is descriptive survey types for hypothesis was formulated. The instrument used for the collection of data was questionnaire.
The responses of the finding s, the following recommendation were made; proper training program should be structured to focus more on acquisition of effective use of instructional materials. The teacher must improve t enable the teaching learning enterprise make a successful mark in Nigeria. The government (i.e federal, state, and local) should provide adequate and teaching and learning in the country. The government should compel all private schools from crèche, kindergarten, pre-primary and tertiary institution to provide the necessary educational resources to enhance teaching and learning process.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND TO PROBLEM
it is enough to describe the teaching in terms of knowledge, skill, personality or other such attributes for all these have to do with who the teacher is, what the teacher has on his/her students. Teaching is not an isolated activity rather it occurs only if learning take place.
What is teaching?
Teaching is the process of imparting knowledge or decoding information so that the decoder may be able to modify his behaviour Gagre (1975) define teaching as a set of events designed to indicate, activities and support learning in the individual. He goes on to define the teacher as the designer, activator, initiator, manger and inductor of learning.
Stunhouse (1979) observed that schools take responsibilities for planning and organizing children’s learning.
They try to give it directions and maximize its effectiveness to him, teaching denote the strategies but systematic promotion of learning by whatever means which students can feel, see, hear, handle and move about, experts, professionals in specific field of specialization. A private legal practitioner who is invited to lecture law students on a specific legal topic is a reason person.
A roadside mechanic who is invited to demonstrate a mechanical skill to students of a technical school is a resource person.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The statement which the researcher intends to verify is the relevance of instructional materials to the processes in social studies. Various problems encountered will be highlighted one after the other so as to result to a pleasant conclusion of the study.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The aim and objective of the research work is to:
- This research work is to help find out the extent at which instructional materials and media have helped in promoting teaching and learning in primary school.
- To inquire into the extent at which educational resources facilitates teaching and learning in Nigeria schools.
iii. Identify the performance of students through the use of instructional materials and media.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance and central focus of this study is to investigate the effective use of instructional materials and media as a means of the pupils towards the lesson.
The researcher also believe that the findings of the study will provoke further research on the use of instructional materials and media for effective teaching and learning process.
The knowledge to be derived from the research work would help the reader, students, teachers and parents to know the effects of the use of instructional materials and media on our school.
The study will helps our parents to give support and encourage their children at home to face their study with all seriousness.
It will also encourage teachers to teach effectively in the class.
1.5 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
This study is designed to take the following research questions.
- Will instructional materials promote teaching effectiveness?
- Can educational resources facilitate teaching and learning in Nigeria schools?
iii. Is there any significant relationship between the instructional materials and media in promoting teaching and learning effectiveness?
1.6 RESEARCH HYPOTHESES
- Promoting teaching effectiveness will not significantly depend on instructional materials.
- Educational resources will not significantly facilitate teaching and learning in Nigeria schools.
iii. There is a significant relationship between the instructional materials and media in promoting teaching and learning effectiveness.
1.7 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF STUDY
The study will focus on the use of instructional materials and media as a means of promoting teaching effectiveness through improvisation as adoption on the school teachers.
Limitation: The research work ought to be based on all primary school in Ogun state but for financial constraint.
This study will be limited by inaccessible to adequate reference materials.
