ABSTRACT

This research aim at at providing  solution to parental role in early childhood education and its impacts on overall growth and development of pupil in ikeja local government Lagos state Nigeria . it will serve as an eye opener to parent and the society in helping to modify re-adjust  their mode of parental involvement towards achieving a better future for themselves and the children , not with standing their busy schedules and in some cases  of  inadequacy  recourses .chi-square method was listed through self a ministered  questionnaire and analysis was dine using the frequency table to fest hypothesis. Based on the funding if work parental involvement, that is emotional care and support has a very high influence on early childhood, particularly academic performance of the child. More so. It was observed that the social economic childhood education. It was also observed that the more conductive the leaning environment of the children is the higher education  performance. On he whole, parental role in early childhood education it impact on the overall growth and development of pupils has help to broaden the child’s horizon, enhances social relationship and promote a sense of esteem and self efficacy

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

 

  • BACKGROUD OF THE STUDY

Education is an indispensable tool in nation building. it is a process of systematic training and instruction designed to transmit knowledge acquisition of skill , potential and ability which enable individual to contribute efficiency  to the growth and redevelopment of his society . it stimulate life result of a lifetime of thinking about educating  and also a profound  of philosophical. It involves all round development of an individual physically, socially. According to Meieobi.(2006) early childhood education  can be said to be formalized education process to which children between the age two and half (2 1/2) through five plus are subjected to in designated preschool institution.

It is during this stage that there can be effective and efficient unlocking and development of child’s talent abilities, altitudes and other forms of behavior of positive values in the society in which he/she lives, this is to utmost impotence because researches on early childhood education experience have great impact on all areas of a child’s development and has suggested that the child first teacher is an extremely impotent person in the child’s life (osakwe 2009) a child who fail to acquire early childhood education may suffer emotionally socially, interdentally even physically if he/she is trusted into the primary school . it is because imperative for the parent of a child to get involve take up certain roles and responsibilities in other to ensure that the child(ren) get early education

Miedel and Rernod (1999) are the opinion that when families are involve in the child early education, children experience greater success once they enter primary school and even in later life .

The  term parental involvement” include several  difference  form of participation in education and with  school.   Parent can support their children  to choose by attending school function  and responding to school obligation  like parent, teachers conferences, they can also become more involved in helping their children to improve in their school by producing encouragement , arranging for appropriate study time and spaces, modeling desired  behavior(school activity tutoring  their children at home ).

Outside the home parent can serve as an advocate for school. They can volunteer to help out with school activities or work in the classroom or they can take active role in government in decision-making necessary for planning and providing developing, providing education for the community children (cotton and wikeend 1989).

A review by(Henderson and berail 1997) of sixty-six studies of the subject of parental involvement conclude that the most accurate predictor of student achievement in school is not income or social status at home, but the extent to which families are able to create a home environment that support hearing , communicate high and reasonable expectation for their achievement  and become involved in their children ‘s schools.

 1.2             STETEMENT OF REASEACH PROBLEM

That a large number of parents are less concerned or too much occupied to pay attention to the education of their children. All this are happening to the overall growth of the children being involved.

   1.3                   PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

  • The purpose of the study can be summarized as below
  • ­­­Find out parental role in early childhood education.
  • Find out the impact of these roles in growth and development of the child.
  • Find out our lack of these effect the overall growth and development of the child.
  • Examine the factors affecting parental involvement in early childhood education.
  • How education contribute to childhood education growth and development in nature.

1.4           SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

This research work is not only for academic purpose but also to encourage parental involvement in early childhood education. It also bring enablement to parental change

  • SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This project will only cover five selected primary school in L.G.A. Lagos state. The five schools will however be random selected.

  • LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The major limitation of the study is that not all pupils in school can be involve, and since only on local government is being covered to represent the status, the general impression might not be narrowed

  1. How does the academic achievement of student whose parent are actively involve in their education different from that of their counterparts who parent are not involved?
  2. What are the particular in influence parent could have in their children?
  3. Which aspect of parental involvement could have everlasting impact on the educational growth and development?
  4. Do parent have any role to play in early childhood education?

1.8     REASEARCH   HYPOTHESES

  1. There is no significant relationship between parental involvement in early childhood education and of educational performance of the child.
  2. There is no significance different between the leaning environments of the children educational performance.
  3. The social economics characteristics do not have any impact on childhood education

1.9                DEFINITION OF THE TERMS

Early childhood education can be said to be a formulized education process to which children between the age of two and half (2 ½) though five pulse are subjected to designated preschool institution.

Education is building a process of systematic training and instruction designed to transmit knowledge.

Parental role, parent is to get involved, take up certain role and responsibilities in other to ensure that the children get early childhood education.

Education is the process of leaning and acquiring information.

Education can be seen as formal informal nonformal education.

Formal education is an education we learn inside the school premises

Informal education is a process of leaning in our environment.

Nonformal education can also be related with informal education (e.g) church work home mosque e.t.c
