The numbers of properly educated citizens a nation will have depends largely on the ability and performance of students in the system. A good and promising educational system is one based on proper planning. According to the National Policy on Education (1977) the success of any system is hinged on proper planning, efficient administration and adequate financing.

Therefore, for students to perform as expected in our higher institutions today, there is a great need for proper planning, commitment and sincerity of purpose on the part of the government, institutions management as well as students for whom the institutions actually exist.

There is need for the government to produce a blue print to be achieved, educational goals are intended to be achieved, adequate human, material and financial resources that will provide the enabling environment for the implementation of education plans.

The management of institutions is in position with available resources to answer on its own part, the planning questions of what, they, who, when and who in the discharge of its duties as key implementers of the education plan. This means that school managements too has some planning roles to play.

Students too must play their own part by facing their students properly and bearing in mind that success (especially in academic) depends on planning commitment and sincerity of purpose. In the past, academic performance of students use to be reliable criteria use by organizations in the employment of staff but now the reverse is the case as fresh graduates are made to proof themselves as rightful owners of their final results.

This show what is happening to the academic performance of students in me higher institutions…. “because of prevailing notion that the products therefore branded inadequate for local employment and global completion” Oby Ezekwesilu as reported by this day Newspaper, 1 May, 2007.
