This study used the interview and questionnaire methods on both teachers and learners to ascertain the teachers’ teaching methodology, paying attention on teaching aids, and the learner’s interest on the subject and how they fare on it. The various data collected was analyzed using the chi-square (x2) and simple percentage method of data analyzed to test the reliability of the postulated hypothesis. The findings revealed that English language is easy but for the environmental influence of learners and lack of qualified teachers teaching the subject. Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers of English language should be well tutored on how to teach. And as such the least qualification of BED English should teach English language in the senior secondary school to avoid hindrance in gaining admission into the tertiary institutions.

The importance of English language in Nigeria in general can not be over-emphasized. It is a lingua franca, the language of the government the language of the mass media, the language of education and especially a pre-requisite to admission into any of the tertiary institutions.
English language which is of four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing which makes a person to be known as educated, through his/her discussion has hindered many secondary school students in Ojo Local Government their admission into the universities, polytechnics and even college of education.
The mass failure of secondary schools students in Ojo was seen to be as a result of the students background from home and school resulting to not using the school using the English language as a medium of communication at home and in their locality which makes the students to substitute ‘Yoruba’ for English causing errors.
The NECO result of 2010/2011 showed that 79% failed English. If this alarming rate failed English, you can be sure that they failed will remain at home until they get a credit pass to pursue their greatness through education. So, where are the future leaders?
According to A.B.K Dadzie & Segun Awonusi etal (2007) the approaches to the learning of English in Nigerian are pre-school, primary school and secondary school. This brings us to the teachers of English. “You can not give what you don’t have”. Many teachers English (NCE) attend English classes without ever visiting the language laboratory.
There is a nation-wide syllabus provided for English and the curriculum content has to be strictly adhered to. The teacher with a phonological, semantic, lexical and syntactic problem will only produce a failure in English. In order to have at least a credit pass in English, the students must be helped by the teacher to acquire skills in the four language arts namely listening, speaking, reading and writing.
